6 ways to attract the right candidates

Are you tired of advertising a job and only receiving unsuitable applicants?

We recently read a fantastic article written by jobadder.com.au providing some recruitment advice 101. These 6 trusty tips will help you attract the candidates you want for the job your advertising.

  1. Title. Remember you are recruiting people, not skills. Internally, the position may be titled “Admin II” but if the role focuses on project management, the Search Results Title in JobAdder should reflect those responsibilities to increase the likelihood that the target audience will see your ad.
  1. Brevity. Keep your ad to a readable length, generally about 700 words or less. Including too much information can turn job seekers off and cause them to skim and miss important and attractive aspects of the role.
  1. Rewards. What can your job seekers expect to gain through this position? It may be valuable experience, or the ability to grow with the company. It might be the physical proximity of the office to public transport, or it could be flexible work arrangements. Whatever it is, be sure to spend some time analysing all the things the company and position have to offer and highlight those in your job ads.
  1. Salary. It is a dirty word for many, but let’s face it, we all want to know the potential salary when considering a new position. Wherever possible, include a salary range in your job ad so a job seeker can quickly qualify themselves in or out.
  1. Humour. If you have spent time reading through job ads recently, you’ll agree they all sound the same. They are often templated, boring, bullet point lists of “what we need” and “what’s in it for you.” If you can humanize your ad and include humour, fun facts, and other interesting non-standard job ad information, then you stand a much higher chance of making a connection with the job seekers you are targeting.
  1. Re-write and re-advertise. If your ad is not working and you are not attracting the right people after a week, then re-write your ad and re-advertise it. There is no sense in beating a dead horse and losing valuable time and money. An overhaul of the job ad and a fresh new approach can have incredible results.
